Increasing safety of maritime transport by the new maritime services and solutions

Sustainability as an overall concept and the Internet of Things (IoT) as technology within smart navigation is becoming increasingly important in the modern shipping industry and navigation. For example, from a shore-based service (Vessel Traffic System) perspective, the safety level and integrity of navigation are higher when more devices or systems detect that the vessel when entering the port is leaving planned alarm limits on the chart, including safety margins [1].
The aim of this paper is to introduce the processing of AIS transponder data by extracting useful information from dynamic and static messages. For example, an intelligent system for monitoring and recording the exact time when a vessel passes a virtual line between two buoys when entering a narrow channel. The advantage of such a system is that it supports the captain’s navigation decisions when approaching and entering the harbour.
